Everything's Going So Well!

Please tell me you just thought of Moulin Rouge? My husband has somehow managed to never see that movie...even though his dad's theater played it while he worked there so he had the opportunity to watch it like a hundred times...I mean how are we even married, honestly?

But seriously. I had another post planned for today but after yesterday I wanted to tell you guys how completely not scary, not awful, and kind of awesome things have been so far.

The girl I am living with is really nice, and not home a lot because of work, which is pretty yay because tbh I would have preferred to live alone (heyyy fellow anti-social peeps, I know you are out there!). Actually I just haven't had a roommate other than B since like...2008 so I was afraid it would be awkward and sucky but it's not. And of all the possible degrees and jobs she could have, she graduated a year ago with a civil engineering degree (from our rival school which shall not be named, but I can look past that).

I met with my advisor yesterday morning and found I actually got credit for 2 more classes than I thought. Which means that if I take 2-3 summer classes again next year there is basically no reason I won't finish by next December. And she registered me for all of my fall classes! I was kind of flipping out because I still technically have to be accepted into the civil engineering program, and there's like a week window between that application opening, summer classes (which I have to have in order to get in) ending, and fall classes starting. I was really worried about having enough time to get in and register for my fall classes (since they're all restricted to civil engineering majors) but now that won't be an issue.

Then I went to buy required software that was going to be like $200 and found out that I actually am already authorized to download all of it since I paid my software fees in 2005. Yes, almost a decade ago, still counts apparently.

Later I needed to go grocery shopping so I decided to check out a natural foods store near campus and it was the bomb dot com, people. I was pleasantly surprised at how much amazing food they had. And (I guess it's a co-op?) for $10 I became a member which gets me 15% off every time I go there. I saved $2.65 today and all I bought were like 2.5 meals.

Finally, you guys know how worried I was about running here...last night I drove over to campus to run and it was pretty amazing. I was mostly worried because I live in the mountains now...and there are hills...which I've run a total of like 4 times in my lifetime. But it was not as bad as I thought (except for the couple big hills when I thought my chest might actually explode), and I even ran a pretty normal average pace and I had negative splits - I'll take it! Plus, the scenery wasn't half bad.

I must have racked up some good juju with the Universe, because for all my freaking out, things have gone surprisingly easily so far. Today is a new day, though, and it's the first day of classes...still plenty of time for the world to come crashing down ;)

  3. I totally did go to Moulin Rouge and I think I say that and think of that all too often, hahah! Slight confession- I always turn the movie off before the end because I don't like the sad part- I definitely have the soundtrack though. I'm so glad everything is going so well! That's great news about your courses and not having to pay for that program-- little things like that can add up quickly!

  8. Happy 1st day of classes! I told you things would work out, friend!! Everything's looking up! So excited for you, and check you out on your runs! You are a speed demon compared to my slow self, AND you did hills. You go, girl! :) Can't wait to hear more about your new adventure. How's living away from the hubby going? I imagine that would be really hard. Will you go home every weekend or something?

Also, thanks to you, THIS GIRL will be watching Moulin Rouge tonight!

  13. Yay for times when things actually go in your favour! I love seeing people look at the good things in life, partly because it reminds this eternal (semi)pessimist to look at them as well.
