My (Maybe Ridiculous But Also Necessary) November Goals

So the last time I laid out goals for the month was September. I don't like to make monthly goals just for the sake of making them, so I didn't make any specific ones for October, but this month...I can already tell I'm going to need some focus in my life. October was very up and down for me and pretty hectic overall, which has left me feeling pretty worn down and just not myself.

No technology (computer, phone, etc.) after 9pm on weekdays. This was one of my goals for September, and I stuck to it for a couple weeks, and I haven't done it since. It made such a big difference so it's something I know I really need to make a priority. No excuses, no "but I just need to check this one thing," nothing like that.

Clean up my digital life. My emails are out of control, my desktop has a million things on it, all my Dropbox is crazy unorganized. It's a problem and it needs to be fixed ASAP because it's driving me crazy. I don't like physical clutter and I don't like digital clutter either.

Do my makeup every day. Sadly I am not someone who can ever go totally sans makeup, but lately I've only had enough time to throw on some blush and mascara. I feel better and more put together when I actually take the time to do my makeup, so that's a priority this month. Maybe I'll even get a little crazy and throw in some eyeliner and lipstick.

Drink more tea. I don't know why I don't do this. I love tea. Therefore, I should drink more tea.

Limit Starbucks trips to 6 times for the month. I wasn't going to share this, but since we're all friends here: I went to Starbucks 11 times in the month of October. Ben and I share an account so it's possible those weren't all me, but if they weren't...like 10/11 were.

Pile on the Miles. I set my goal at 100 miles, mainly because 100 sounds like a nice, even number. I actually only hit 95 last month, so this will be a good motivation to push myself a little more this month. On the bright side, my two half marathons will put me over a quarter of the way there!

Do yoga every weekend. I used to be so good at this! I did my beloved Gwen Lawrence Yoga for Runners video every weekend for over a year. A YEAR! I only stopped because I got lazy.

Cross something off my 30 Before 30 List.

Be nicer. Text that friend I'm thinking about to see how they're doing. Tell that girl walking by on the sidewalk that I really like her outfit. A lot of times I don't do stuff like that because, I don't know...they might think it's weird, or I feel awkward saying something. But it only takes a few seconds and it might make someone's day.

So there they are, my goals for this month! I hope to take charge it and make it a better one than the last. What do you plan to accomplish this month?

  1. So I love the no technology after 9-- that's way more measurable than just saying less technology, which is what I always try to do! I have a diet-type challenge for myself next month and Starbucks is the one thing I think is going to be my exception- I just have to decide how often!

  2. I really need to put down the technology after 9 too. I try to implement this and I always cheat. I also want to implement mainly social media free Sunday.
My big goal is to not get stressed out about hosting Thanksgiving at the end of the month and have a successful event!

  3. I'm going to join you on the no technology after 9pm! I try to do this and the nights when I do, I feel sooo much better.. not to mention I'm actually paying full, 100% attention to my husband. And yes to the be nicer! Most of the time I won't say/do something for the same reason - I'm worried it will seem awkward. Thanks for the motivation/inspiration! Happy Halloween!

  4. I don't like having digital clutter either! But it really does take some time to clean it all up. I'm going to try and be better about yoga more often as well...there's plenty of free videos out there so I really have no excuse! Happy Halloween friend!!

  5. i need to get better about the technology thing.. i have been waking up in the middle of the night thinking about work stuff and suddenly i am in my work email.. not sure an email sent at 3 in the morning would go over well. i need to put it on the other side of the room or something when i sleep. if you limit your starbucks, i will limit my frivolous amazon packages. :) hope you have a happy halloween and weekend!

  6. I'm proud of your no technology after 9 pm!
Ironically, I've been doing my makeup less and less due to work being so busy (and disgusting). I'm ready for November 6th when I can go back to being a fall-faced makeup gal.
I think I'm tapping out of this running (for a race) game. My knee randomly started acting really weird this week (and I haven't even been running much). Ack.

  7. I seriously love your goals. Wish I could do the no technology after 9 but with the amount of edits I still have to get done I don't think that's quite possible! Good luck!!!! :)

  8. That's a pretty full to-do list for the month. Good luck with all of it!!

  9. I'm participating in Pile on the Miles too! I only set my goal at 80 miles though, because of our weather. I had to cancel a run last night because we got a freak mini-blizzard. For real. Gusts up to 35mph and intermittent snow so thick you couldn't see through it. But I ran this morning and it was crisp and clear!

Hope you accomplish all your goals this month!

  10. Great goals! No technology after nine means a much easier time falling asleep.

  11. I love your be nicer goal, such an important thing to do and I don't do it for the same reason - don't want people to think I am weird. Hmm I have not heard of Pile on the Miles but hey that sounds fun and such a brilliant way to stay motivated!
I think I went to Starbucks like 2 or 3 times this month which is definitely more than normal for me. I love tea, you should drink more tea! :) I am going to try and instill the no technology after 9pm rule, hopefully my husband will be on board :)

  12. 1. So, question: you say "sadly" you can't go completely sans makeup, but then you said you feel more put together when you take time to do your makeup. These seem like mutually exclusive concepts. I'm just curious :)
    2. 100 MILES?!?! Good land of mercy.
    3. Your goal of no computer after 9pm is such a good one. I'm really bad at "just one more thing." An hour later.... yeah it's annoying and a problem.
    4. I think I got to Sbucks once every 6 months. It's such a pain to stop and the drinks are so expensive that I usually talk myself out of it. But I've been meaning to go so I can finally try out this PSL everyone raves about!

  13. I love your goal list, and I love your being intentional about goal-setting for the month. I'm with you on a lot of these — when my digital life starts feeling out of control I get really stressed and anxious.

Ha, your mileage goal is literally double mine. I had it at 70, thinking I would just kind of run for fun in November and December because it's such a busy time and I don't want to stress over hitting mile marks... but I'm taking it easier with the accident. My chiro wants to see me 3x/week for a couple weeks so that'll eat up my evening running time and I also want to be kind to my body — my knee hasn't been feeling quite right since the half. So I cut it down to 50 which I figured would be easy (read: not stressful!) to reach but NOW I'm feeling lazy compared to you! But I've never heard of this Pile on the Miles thing, going to check it out. Thanks for sharing!

  14. Those are some really awesome goals!! I need to sit down and really think of what I want to accomplish this month, but I might be using some of your list as inspiration. I think you can totally do these!

  16. I love your list! There are some really great goals here! I think we can all be nicer! And right now I am trying to get in to yoga on the weekend too. I failed at trying to do it this weekend, but this weekend was sort of a weekend of randomness and getting other stuff done so next weekend shall be the weekend I bring it back! Not that I was ever really that consistent at it...but you know what I mean!

  17. Love a good goals list- I post them most months because they help keep me in check. Even if I don't complete them all, I at least work on them!! I've been working on digital clutter little by little, but definitely need to just commit to getting it DONE.

  18. I really want to go through my inbox, too. Thousands of emails..out of control! Being nicer is a good goal for everyone.. I might try that one :).

  19. Drink more tea is on my list too. I was loving it for a while but then got lazy and have neglected my little stash at work!
