Sunday Sweats 2016 - Vol. 7

Weekly Workouts:

Monday 2/8: 4.15 mile easy run @ 8:49 | This was a really good run! I think I might be getting the hang of easy runs. While I didn't take it super easy, I did try to make sure that my pace felt comfortable and conversational (except going uphill - I don't think I'll ever be conversational at that point). My heart race was only a tad bit higher than the last time I intentionally tried to keep it slow and under a certain level (and that run was 45 seconds/mile slower with no hills and felt like crap, so this one wins).
This was actually kind of fun because I ended up getting caught in a snowstorm! I had no idea it was coming (we had some wintry mix earlier today but I thought it was done), and actually on the 2 miles out I was super happy because all the sidewalks were finally clear! Then it started snowing as soon as I hit the turnaround and within five minutes all the sidewalks were covered in snow. By the time I got home it was snowing pretty hard. The flakes were SO huge and thick, it was like being in a snow globe!

Tuesday 2/9: 60 minutes boxing + 50 minutes spin | I streamed a Grease-themed ride from Peloton and it was the most fun I've had spinning in a while. Any time I can hand jive on my bike in my living room is A-ok with me.

Wednesday 2/10: 8 mile tempo run @ 8:17 | I had a tempo workout scheduled today - 2 miles warmup, 4 miles at goal half marathon pace (8:15-8:20), 2 miles cool down. I honestly didn't think I'd be able to hit the tempo paces - maybe for a mile or two, but four seemed like a lot. I can't explain what happened, but I was pleasantly surprised! Today was a busy day and I almost didn't even get to run, so I guess I figured I'd make the most of it and give it my best shot. 2 miles warmup (8:49, 8:40), 4 miles tempo (8:07, 8:08, 8:03, 7:53 <- don't know where that came from but once I noticed it was happening I just went with it and told myself I could take it easy once it was over!), 2 miles cool down (8:32, 8:18)

Thursday 2/11: 60 minutes boxing + 4 mile run @ 9:12 | Today just wasn't my day. I felt really off at boxing, and on top of that our workout was really tough. I ran home from the gym and that didn't go well either. I had a hill workout on the schedule but since my hip has been feelings cranky since last night's tempo, I knew that was probably a no-go. So instead I jogged/death marched home. My heart rate was well within an easy zone but it felt like anything but. It was so cold out, again (but actually not even as cold as last night), and I just didn't have the energy. I lost my Camelbak last week and I know I haven't been drinking as much water this week without it so I might be a litte dehydrated. Oh and some of the sidewalks iced over so that was fun too! I ended up walking a few different sections because they were literally frozen. Just wasn't my day!

Friday 2/12: 50 minutes spin | Two Peloton classes for the price of one! None of the 45-minute classes were jumping out at me, so I tried a 30-minute and a 20-minute from two new-to-me instructors. The 30 was Eminem-themed and ridiculously hard! The hard intervals were way harder than Jess's classes and there just wasn't as much recovery. I was so tired after 30 minutes that I wasn't going to do the second one, but it was called "Road to Ironman" so I couldn't exactly wimp out. The instructor is doing her second Ironman in June so she's starting a series not specifically for Ironman training, but inspired by it, I guess. I really liked her so I'll definitely add her classes into the mix from now on.

Saturday 2/13: 10 minutes yoga | Hadn't been on my mat at all this week and I was definitely feeling it. Ten minutes in my kitchen while I was cooking dinner was literally all I had time for today, but it did (some of) the trick!

Sunday 2/14: Adam and Eve Half Marathon - 13.1 mile run @ 8:17 | Big change of plans this weekend! I'll probably do a race recap so that this post doesn't get ridiculously long (too late!), but the long and short of it is that for the last...one? two? several? months I've been planning to host Alyssa this weekend so we could both run the Blacksburg Classic 10-Miler, but instead what ended up happening is that I ran a half marathon PR 2.5 hours away. Like I said, big change of plans!

  1. I'm pretty much over winter running at this point, but I do love those snow globe runs. They just feel magical. Can't wait to hear about your half marathon!

  3. i am not even conversational whilst walking uphill, let alone running! i also got a little scared reading you got caught in a snow storm, but yay for it being fun? hahaha.
i want to do a grease themed spin class.
thursday sounds like hell :( sorry girl.
the road to ironman class sounds fun as well! but that is awesome that the 30 minutes was hard.

  4. That Tuesday Peloton class sounds SO fun! I would have loved that. Ditto the Eminem ride. I swear, Peloton could single-handedly sway me toward buying a stationary bike or road bike and trainer. Sorry about the rough Thursday, but the good days seem to be in greater number this week than bad—can't say I'm not incredibly jealous of you for that alone!

Incredibly bummed I didn't get to see you this weekend, but WOOOOO for that amazing half marathon, woman! Way to kick ass.
